Chance Grundmeyer ROC Star of the Homestand 1 Chance Grundmeyer is 10 years old and plays on the Silver State Cal Ripken Minor A's team. Last season Chance was very sick for three months and was diagnosed with brain cancer. He underwent a dangerous but lifesaving brain surgery in California and the doctors could only remove one of the two tumors in his brain. One of the tumors had spread to his ear, causing permanent hearing loss in one ear. Still in California, Chance began four months of aggressive chemotherapy to halt further growth of the remaining tumor. During this time he was given a 50/50 chance of survival. Even though Chance lost hearing in one ear, missed the entire last season of baseball and football, could not see his friends or play outside for months, and could not go to school, he had the best attitude. September 2011 I have been a patient of the ROC since January, when I tore my ACL, MCL, and meniscus. My surgeon, Dr. Uppal, has been wonderful. I truly felt like I was getting the best knee doctor in Reno, and I have been thrilled with the results of my surgery so far. The fact that he offered the double bundle repair made me feel like I was getting the best technology as well as the best skilled surgeon. My physical therapist was Troy Burley, and his assistant was Stephen. This duo provided amazing care for me. It was a long, frustrating process recovering from my knee injury, and both of them were supportive and empathetic the entire time. They answered all of my questions, and made me feel more like a friend than a patient. The Reno Orthopaedic Clinic offers a one year clinical fellowship in Orthopaedic Trauma Surgery. This is an OTA approved fellowship which seeks individuals from approved North American residency programs. Fellows are trained in a private, level II community trauma system under the supervision of ROC traumatologists Timothy Bray, Peter Althausen and Tim O'Mara. This fellowship provides an extremely busy clinical experience with an emphasis on adult and pediatric acute fracture care. Our surgeons treat a high volume of periarticular fractures in both the upper and lower extremity such as the distal humerus, tibial plateau and tibial pilon. As the region's only referral center for pelvis and acetabular injuries, trauma fellows should receive a strong clinical experience in this arena.
